Research and Practical Uses of Natural Dyes
The first part of the course will be dedicated to the knowledge of the nature and chemistry of natural dyes, to the chemistry of drying and then consider which ones work on paper. Practical work will focus on the preparation of dyes.
Then, the second part will focus on the preparation of samples and on the creation of a reference charter.
Participants will dye three types of paper usually used in conservation process: Chinese Xuan, Japanese Sekishu and a Western paper for comparison.
At the end of the workshop participants will go away with samples, literature and references to make recipes , as well as practical experience.
