Urban art / Recognition, valorization and conservation
French and foreign heritage institutions have been taking an interest in urban art for several years, but in what way?
In France, there are numerous ad hoc events devoted to urban art, but it is much rarer to find establishments that have chosen to include it in their collections… However, for more than 40 years, the enthusiasm of the public and interest of professionals for this artistic current has unceasingly grown.
The complexity of the status, the undervaluing of materials, the lack of an inventory of documentation that is nevertheless abundant: these are all elements that still hinder our institutions in the study of this contemporary artistic expression and its designation as heritage assets.
How are the cultural institutions of neighbouring countries positioned? How have private players (collectors, gallery proprietors, associations) found their place in the general economy of this art form? What about research on materials, their impairment, their conservation and restoration? What are the positions of the artists themselves? What does the legislation say? What institutional initiatives exist in France?
These are the questions that these 3 days of international discussions will attempt to answer, as well as providing topics for discussion to enable better recognition/knowledge of urban art.
Coming from US, Europe and France, curators, gallery proprietors, conservators, lawyers, artists,… all committed to the inclusion of urban art, will come to share their experiences.
Forming part of the INP's continuous training programme, this meeting is intended to provide concrete and precise solutions to all those who would like urban art to be opened up to designation as heritage assets while respecting the creativity of artists.
