L’Institut national du patrimoine (the National Institute of Cultural Heritage) is an institution of higher education which bears ties with the French ministry of culture and communication.
Its purpose is to recruit through competitive exams and initial training programmes curators of the French cultural heritage, French territorial public service and the city of Paris officials. It also selects through competitive exams and training programmes restorers of the French cultural heritage. Training programmes of both complementary trades within a same institute is a unique and original specificity one could not find anywhere else in Europe.
Every year, the Inp takes in between 40 to 50 curator students and about 20 students specialized in restoration.
The Inp also offers a very wide array of permanent training programmes. It also serves as a place of cultural spreading through seminars and conferences which are both a ways and means to work with other academic institutions linked to cultural heritage, be they French or foreign.
Last but not least, missions at the Inp lie within the framework of its campaign to send its students abroad through internships and to welcome foreign interns, all the while exporting its training programmes and its know-how through a network of international cooperation.
