Recruitment exam

Competitive recruitment examinations for heritage curators are organised by the Inp acting for the State, the City of Paris and, on the basis of an agreement with the CNFPT (State civil service) and local government authorities.

Successful candidates in the competitive examinations join the Inp for an 18-month training programme beginning January of the year following the competitive exam.

General entry requirements

All candidates must be of French nationality or nationals of a Member State of the European Union or of a State party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area.

External competitive examinations are open to candidates holding a bachelor's degree (or equivalent).

Internal competitive examinations are open to State civil servants, military personnel and judges, civil servants in local government authorities and public institutions. They can be in active employment, on secondment, on parental leave or on military service or in office within an international intergovernmental organisation. Candidates must be able to justify 4 years of active public service at the time of the closing date for registration. 

Course programme

Thanks to a partnership with the CNFPT (State civil service) and the City of Paris, course content is the same for future heritage curators working for the State, the City of Paris and local government authorities.

Training from January to June of the following year ; alternates theoretical teaching, practical training, in France and abroad and includes scientific research.

After this 18-month training programme and successful completion of the course approved by a jury, students receive a diploma in curatorial studies awarded by the Ministry of Culture and communication.
