VAE procedure

VAE procedure (Validation des Acquis de l’Expérience)

To obtain a Master’s Degree in conservation-restoration of cultural heritage

What is VAE ?

The Loi de Modernisation Sociale (Law of Social Modernization) dated January, 2002, introduced the notion of VAE that specifically authorizes, in certain conditions, « the validation of prior experience to justify all or part of the achievements and work experience required in order to obtain a diploma issued by the State ».

The Decree of July 9th, 2012, gives access to the obtention of a degree in conservation-restoration of cultural heritage (Master’s) by validating prior experience.

Public concerned : the Validation des Acquis de l’Expérience - Validation of Prior Experience is open to all : employees (CDI - permanent contracts, CDD - temporary contracts, temps), freelancers, liberal professionals, job-seekers, public officials, volunteers, no matter what the previous qualifications obtained.

Eligibility requirements : have the equivalent of five years of full time professional experience in direct relation to the obtention of a degree in heritage conservation-restoration for which a VAE is required. To calculate the five years of work experience the following conditions are taken into account : activities carried out on a continuous or interrupted basis, full-time or part-time, in France or abroad. Duration is calculated by accumulation ratio.

However, non- eligibility concerns initial and ongoing training periods no matter what the personal status, this includes training courses and internships within a working environment, carried out for the obtention of a degree or in the preparation of a vocational education certificate.

Activities carried out by the candidate must be directly in line with the activities defined in the activity directory of heritage conservation-restoration.
