The Institut national du patrimoine has been working with partners in Senegal since 2011. Its activities are supported by the Institut Français du Sénégal, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture.

A few dates

2023, 2024: Hosting of student heritage curators as part of their compulsory internship abroad at the national archives in Dakar (2023) and the archives of the Université Gaston-Berger in Saint-Louis (2024).

July 2022: a field-school on the metal and leather collections of the Musée Théodore Monod, during which five Inp curatorial students specialising in museums and archaeology worked with twelve participants from three Senegalese museums (Musée Théodore Monod d'Art Africain, Musée de la Mer in Gorée, Musée Historique in Gorée).

Since 2021: providing expertise as part of a project to set up an African centre for studies in heritage conservation and restoration in Senegal, run by the Institut Fondamental d'Afrique Noire (IFAN) and the Université Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD) in conjunction with other Senegalese, French and international partners. The aim of this centre is to provide training leading to a qualification in order to ensure the material conservation of heritage in the country and the region.

June 2011: Implementation of a training project at the Musée Théodore Monod on collections of wood and metal objects, with seven student conservator-restorers from the Inp specialising in furniture and metal, supervised by professionals from France, Senegal, Benin, and Gabon.

The Inp also regularly welcomes Senegalese professionals to its courses for international professionals: the 18-month international diploma course for heritage curation, the two-month course in heritage conservation or restoration, and the international archives technical internship.
